WordPress Theme Talian with Targeted AdSense Ads, Clickbank ads included and SEO Improvements Creator: David Cameron Law (aka SEO Dave) Latest Version of theme: http://www.google-adsense-templates.co.uk/wordpress-theme-talian-with-adsense-and-seo-optimisation.html Version: 05 Based on original Talian Theme: http://www.va4business.com/business/64/free-premium-wordpress-blog-theme-talian-released-an-elegant-theme-that-is-very-much-close-to-my-heart/ Author: Steve Arun First a quick note on the Widgets that was in version 03. In version 03 I named Widgets with the format: "GAT Name of Widget" for example "GAT RSS Feeds" I've made a slight change in Talian 04 with this format: "0GAT Name of Widget" for example "0GAT RSS Feeds" So the Google AdSense Templates (GAT) Widgets are sorted near the top (easier to find). Unfortunately I've had to change it again since WordPress isn't sorting a 0 alphabetically! In version 05 I've numbered the GAT widgets in order I tend to use them starting with the left sidebar (sidebar 1). I tend to have a sidebar starting like: Left Sidebar 1GAT Adverts Clear BG (or 1GAT Adverts) 2GAT Categories 3GAT Links 4GAT Meta 5GAT RSS Feeds Right Sidebar 6GAT Recent Articles 7GAT Recent Comments 12 (or 7GAT Recent Comments 20) The rest (the 9GAT's) depends on the site, if there's no Pages and no Tags not much point having those menu items added. Try to use the #GAT widgets before trying the default ones, so "2GAT Categories" is better than the default "Categories" widget. You'll also find some 9GAT Widgets which are example custom widgets (see below) and the monthly archive widget which you shouldn't use for SEO reasons. AdSense Sidebar Widgets ----------------------- You can now have two AdSense ad sidebar widgets, one that's a content ad unit and one a text link ad unit. In this theme there are two options for each type: Text Link Type Ads 9GAT Link Adverts : This is a link ad with a header saying "Related Searches" 9GAT Link Adverts Clear BG : This is a link ad with no header and clear background Choose only one of the above. I've found the search/link AdSense ads don't perform particularly well, so rarely use them. Content Type Ads 1GAT Adverts : This is a content ad with a header saying "Adverts" 1GAT Adverts Clear BG : This is a content ad with no header and clear background Choose only one of the above, I use the clear background version. If you choose two Link or two Content ads it will mess up other ads (Google allows a certain number of link ads and content ads, three of each). New Custom Widgets ------------------ In Talian version 04+ I've added the ability to add custom sidebar widgets without having to edit the functions.php file. This means when Talian is updated it will be far easier to incorporate your custom widgets. This is semi advanced editing, so make sure you keep backups just in case. To use this new feature put all your custom widget codes in the file: /talian-adsense-clickbank-seo-05/custom-widgets.php You will find two example widgets within the file already "9GAT Empty Widget" and "9GAT Awesome Links". One is a blank widget for your use and the others is a links widget to some of my sites, you'll find it as a widget called "9GAT Awesome Links" (you can edit this as well). To make your first custom Widget I'd use the top example and edit for your needs. There are instructions within the content of that first example widget. Note: it's important not to add extra spaces between widgets on the above file as it can break your RSS feeds (it's a PHP thing). Basically it's important not to add any carriage returns before When you create a new widget. If you make any custom widgets make sure when I do send out an update of Talian 05 don't upload the new /talian-adsense-clickbank-seo-05/custom-widgets.php file over your custom one, that should be the only file you have to protect when you make an update (unless you make other custom changes). I added this feature for my own use, I have so many sites and add custom code to the sidebars all the time and every time I make an update I have to manually rebuild the function.php file! Now I can keep the custom widgets in a separate file and updates will be easy. Hope you like this new feature, I think it makes adding custom code so much easier than messing with the functions.php file. David Law http://www.google-adsense-templates.co.uk/
